DERBY HISTORY
The sport was invented in 1935 by Leo A. Seltzer, and has seen its ups and downs with the sport's decline in the early 1970s and then it had a revival in 2001. There are more than 450 leagues internationally, and each league has its own rules and regulations. Ames Roller Derby Association plays Flat Track Roller Derby according to the most current rules and regulations set by the Women's Flat Track Derby Association.
You can learn more about the history at WFTDA’s history page.
Our league was established in 2013. Watch more about us in this short documentary!
